Sunday Walks for Locals

"I live locally and would like to join a group to get to know Dartmoor better. Do you offer any regular guided walks?"

Name: Walks for Locals - Down Tor Stone Row and the Monastic Way

Distance: 7 miles

Difficulty: Moderate - gentle gradients, some rough/boggy sections

Features: Ancient crosses, Down Tor stone row, Burrator Reservoir, Leather Tor clapper bridge, Crazywell Pool, Devonport Leat

Sunday, 3rd July  Nun's Cross, Down Tor & the Monastic Way

Starting by Nun's Cross, we visit the farmhouse and the cross, see where the leat goes underground, then walk southwest over open moorland and past tinworkings and prehistoric settlements to spectacular, lonely Down Tor stone row, one of the most impressive on the moor.  We walk via Combeshead Tor and the Deancombe valley to Norsworthy Bridge and take the track to lovely Leather Tor bridge.  Here we are walking on the old Monastic Way between Buckfast Abbey and Tavistock.  We'll visit Crazywell Pool (opportunity for a swim if the weather is favourable) and Crazywell Cross, and follow the Devonport Leat all the way back to our start point.

Cost of walk: £10

Email [email protected] in advance if you wish to come.  Numbers are limited and therefore I need to know who is coming!
