Summary

Sunday,  30th January  Whitchurch Common Circular

We walk first up to striking Middle Staple Tor - striking rock formations and great views - and then walk down past the old Merrivale Quarry.  Crossing the road, we walk southwards above the Walkham valley, passing Vixen Tor on the way, then loop round to the lovely settlement of Sampford Spiney with its lovely churchyard and old manor house (once belonging to Sir Francis Drake).  We head north towards Moortown and take part of the old Tavistock-Ashburton packhorse route which leads us to Windy Post Cross from where it is an easy stroll back to our start point at Pork Hill.

Cost of walk: £10
