Summary

By combining a tour on our wonderful electric bikes with circular walks at interesting stopping points, you can get great exercise, fresh air and see lots of the moor up close. Here's one possible route - there are many others that start from places like Tavistock, Postbridge, Ashburton or Princetown.

Starting at a car park near Ashburton, we cycle over open moorland, passing a series of fabulous tors:  Rippon Tor. Saddle Tor and Haytor.  We then loop around the side of Haytor Down and Black Hill, with great views out over Yarner Wood and the lowlands beyond.  This quiet lane takes us into the pretty village of Manaton from where there's a number of delightful short circular walks we can do.  Next stop is Jay's Grave and then Hound Tor, where we can visit the tor itself, the medieval village beyond and a prehistoric burial cist.  A short cycle away is Bowerman's Nose, a very striking granite pillar with a good story behind it.  The final stretch takes us past Bonehill Rocks from where there's a great view out over the village of Widecombe in the valley below.
