New Two-Day Walk in June
This year's two-day walk is an almost entirely new route, this time going from north to south and covering some of the most interesting and atmospheric parts of the moor. It takes place on the weekend of 9 and 10 June.
Day 1 - Saturday 9th June: We will meet at Peartree, Ashburton at 9 am and carshare, or you have the option of driving straight to Postbridge where we will leave some cars. From there, we will drive to Belstone village where the walk begins (again, you can meet us there if that's more convenient). This first day features some spectacular stone circles. We will walk out of the village along the Taw valley and along the side of Cosdon Hill, passing Little Hound Tor stone circle and continuing on to Scorhill stone circle. We cross over the North Teign River, cross Shovel Down and then skirt around Fernworthy forest to Grey Wethers stone circles. Then we walk southwards down the East Dart valley to Postbridge. Distance: 13 miles
Day 2 - Sunday 10th June: Set off from Peartree, Ashburton at 9.00 am, drive to Norsworthy Bridge where we leave some cars and then on to Postbridge (again there's the option to meet there). From Postbridge we walk up Lakehead Hill through many prehistoric remains, skirt around Bellever Tor and over to the Cherrybrook valley. There's a short stretch of road walking as far as Prince Hall where we cross the West Dart and follow the Swincombe valley as far as Whiteworks. Then we walk up to Nun's Cross and head westwards towards Down Tor stone row, one of the finest on the moor. The final stretch takes us around Down Tor and through the crumbling enclosures to Burrator reservoir where our cars will be waiting for us. Distance: 11 miles
Cost: £20 per day. You can do either or both.
